Q. How do I activate my heat pad?
Instructions for activation:
1. Snap the metal disc inside the heat pad back and forth until crystals start to form.
2. Knead heat pad until it becomes a soft slushy texture.
3. Apply heat pad to desired body area.
4. Your heat pad will remain hot for up to 2 hours when insulated inside the fabric pouch/belt.
Q. How long does the heat last?
The neck/shoulder heat pad is up to 2.5 hours of heat
The lower back heat pad is up to 2 hours of heat
The knee/elbow heat pad is up to 1.5 hours of heat
The hand warmers are up to 45 minutes of heat
All depending on the climate you are in while you are using them and if the heat pads are insulated
Q. How do I reset my heat pads back to liquid form?
Instructions to reset your heat pads using a stove:
1. To re-use heat pads, carefully place the cooled gel pack into a pot of boiling water.
2. Boil for approximately 10 minutes or until all of the crystals have disappeared. It is recommended to avoid contact between your Express Heat Therapy pads and the bottom of the pot. You can do so by putting a cloth inside the water on the bottom of the pot.
3. Carefully remove from water using tongs with plastic endings, let the heat pad cool to room temperature before reusing.
Q. Can I put my heat pads in the microwave?
No, do not use a microwave. Instead follow the instructions on the manual to reset your heat pads using a stove.
Q. Can I use them as cold packs?
Yes, you can store them in the fridge while in its liquid form and use them anytime as cold pads. You can also place your heat pads in the freezer for approximately 1 hour if you are in need for immediate use. The pads will freeze solid if left in the freezer for too long. If this occurs, just follow the instructions to reset your heat pads back to liquid form.
Q. How many times can I re-use my heat pads?
As long as you don’t break the metal disc inside or puncture the heat pad, there is no limit to how many times you can re-use it.
Q. Why do the heat pads turn hard after I use it?
When activating the heat pads, crystals form immediately. They remain soft while the heat pad is hot, but as they cool down they begin to harden. Eventually, the heat pad will be quite solid. To reset the heat pad back to its liquid state, simply boil for the recommended length of time.
Q. What is inside the heat pad? Are they safe to use?
Inside the heat pads is sodium acetate. In simple words it is a mix between baking soda and vinegar. Safe even for children to use, it is non-toxic.
Q. How is the heat produced?
By snapping the metal disc inside it releases energy that causes small molecules to turn into a solid state which then creates a chain reaction causing the solution to crystalize and instantly heat to a predetermined temperature of 130°F/53°C.
Q. Why did my heat pad crystalize and turn hard by itself even after I boiled it?
The reason this occurs is because the heat pad has not been boiled long enough and some crystals remained. If this ever happens just re-boil the heat pad for longer and make sure all the crystals have disappeared before taking it out of the water.
